One of our recent projects was to design and install a system for a client which would be able to convey and transfer containers of fragranced oils which are open so need to be treated with care.

Our team worked together to produced a 24 VDC powered roller conveyor combined with a goods lift which allows zero pressure accumulation of the containers of oils. The system has been designed to work in a smooth and controlled manner so that the oils do not spill whilst in transit.

Recently we shared on our blog a conveyor system our team had designed and supplied to one of our longstanding customers. It was a modular belt conveyor system which included a decline and merge system for a large packing company.

We decided to share this again as, not only has it has been one of our most popular videos on our You Tube channel, but also because it shows some snippets of our design process, showing on how we start with a design, to how it is built and installed and subsequently how it works and integrates with the client's other systems when installed!

Filed under: PVC/PU, Rollers, Lineshaft, Business, Videos, Applications

Often when the Mobility Engineering team are asked to work with a client, it will involve designing and installing more than one kind of conveyor. This particular client required a number of conveyors to move products between different floors and areas.

After a full overhaul and redesign of their conveyor systems, the client was installed with:

  1. An interfloor belt conveyor with both lineshaft and gravity roller conveyors
  2. Lineshaft powered roller conveyors
  3. Modular belt and pvc belt conveyors (part of which were also installed with grip tops as they were used on a decline).

The video below shows the variety of different conveyors that can be combined together within a manufacturing space to support production line processes.

Who We Are and What We Do

Posted by Sarah Bardsley on Wednesday, 12 December 2018 at 20:43:28

Mobility Engineering have been producing conveyors and conveyor systems since 1974 - which is over 44 years in the business!

We design, develop, manufacture, install and commission conveyors and material handling systems from our purpose built factory. Our talented team of engineers, designers and project managers deliver bespoke solutions to suit a variety of customers from a wide range of industries. Our full drawing/design office produces full working drawings, prior to any product/conveyor being manufactured, which offers the versatility of being able to offer more bespoke designs and layouts. Coupled with this, is our in-house machining shop and control design engineers, who are able to offer the control cabinet and full logic/software control system.

Generally (or more simplistically) conveyors and conveyor systems can be broken down into two distinct divisions - powered and non-powered.

Non-powered conveyors are gravity conveyors, therefore, relying on gravity to get from A to B (either horizontally, by human resources pushing, or via a decline, so the product moves under its own weight). Being non-powered means you simply cannot control the movement/flow.

Powered conveyors, on the other hand, are much more reliable and versatile with regards control and process flow. Being powered, you are in control of how and how fast the product goes from A to B, plus it can have the added benefit of accumulation. Examples of powered conveyors are:- 1) Belt Conveyor (Fabric), 2) Belt Conveyor - (Plastic Modular), 3) Powered Roller Conveyor (Lineshaft), 4) Powered Roller Conveyor (Chain Driven), 5) Slat Conveyor (Acetal - Plastic), 6) Slat Conveyor (Stainless Steel), 7) Chain Conveyor, 8) Magnetic Conveyor

Conveyor Belt With Waterfall Transfer

Posted by Sarah Bardsley on Tuesday, 16 October 2018 at 13:59:59

Filed under: Conveyors, PVC/PU, Videos, Case Studies, Technical

I know that we keep saying this, but again, this is one of our very favourite conveyor installation videos. There is something about food production that is fascinating and we all love food!

Part of loving food is also being fit and healthy, and protein bars and drinks are making up a large proportion of the health food market. Our video shows how we installed a belt conveyor into a food producer's production line for protein bars. The bars come down the conveyor belt, and are transferred onto another part of the system via a waterfall drop. The protein bars are then lined up for entry through a metal detector and subsequently for packaging.

Powered Roller Stillage Conveyor

Posted by Sarah Bardsley on Saturday, 25 August 2018 at 12:49:20

Our design team at Mobility Engineering has recently been involved in a three phase project to provide a conveyor system which can handle very heavy and awkward stillages.

We designed and installed a heavy duty, powered roller conveyor which was capable of handling very heavy and awkward stillages safely within a manufacturing business. The rollers used on this particular project had to be machined to allow for the runners on the base of the stillages, and the system has been built to allow for a maximum weight of 1,000 kilograms.

Our video below shows the different stages of installation and the testing of the product before it was installed on site.

Mobility Engineering Case Studies

Posted by Sarah Bardsley on Monday, 19 March 2018 at 17:54:58

Filed under: Business, Testimonials, Case Studies

Sometimes the easiest way to explain what we can do for our clients is to have a look at some of our past projects. You can find these on our Case Studies page on our website!

Aldo Shoes

Their first two shops were in Central London and Mobility Engineering supplied the conveyors to transport the shoes from the front entrance (via trap doors on the main high streets) down to the basement where the shoes were stored. The third shop (Camden, London) had two conveyors, the first was for the same function as previously supplied, but the second conveyor was designed to be a focal point of the store, being located at the front of the store in the main window, travelling from ground floor to first floor.

Since then, Aldo have opened many stores throughout the UK, and all of their shops, situated on high streets, house our interfloor belt conveyors.

Futaba

Futaba-Tenneco UK Ltd (Burnley), who produce steel components for one of the world's largest car producers, had their facility full of fork trucks and steel stillages. There were 2 distinct areas which needed to be looked at. Firstly, the health and safety implication of the sheer amount of fork trucks travelling around the facility, and secondly, their need to organise and increase productivity.

After initial trials, using simple gravity tracking (rollers), it was obvious that a more bespoke system was required, given that we needed to utilise 2 and 3 tiered conveying, coupled with trying to achieve a more cost effective result.

As the tote bins (weighing around 20Kgs) and wooden slave boards (weighing around 200Kgs) were flat bottomed, the first 2 cells were installed using a mixture of steel and plastic skatewheels, which worked incredibly well.

LuK Limited

When LuK first approached us to look at a current system they had for transporting brake discs from their machine to end of line (for packing), they were using a very expensive power and free loop system, which was having frequent motor burn out (overloading) problems.

After the initial site visit, it became evident that such an elaborate system wasn't needed. Instead, a more simple indexing system could be used. This would have been an ideal situation using modular belt conveyors, but unfortunately, the underside of the discs have a boss that hangs below. With this in mind, we decided to use twin chains (with rubber tops).

The system needed to be capable of hand 40 off double stacked discs, which led to us using 2 twin chain conveyors, with a traversing unit at the infeed which could deliver parts to either line, depending on the type of disc. This has worked extremely well, freeing up man hours, no down time and a much smaller footprint than the original system, allowing more free area around the machine.

These are just a few of our sucessful partnerships working with our clients, but they illustrate the range, design quality and craftsmanship of our products. We are very lucky to have a talented and highly qualified team working for us at Mobility Engineering.
