One of our clients recently approached our team asking for a solution for the merging together of two loads from two telescopic belt conveyors.

The conveyor solution was also required to be able to handle heavy duty parcels.

Our design team put their heads together and came up with a unique design which is the Mobility Engineering Acetal Slat Merge Conveyor. We decided that we could re-engineer an "old school" design for a timing belt merge conveyor, but we would incorporate individual chains with acetal slats which are perfect for use with heavy loads.

Our client was delighted with the outcome and the unique design that we had developed especially for their unique requirements.

Every time our design and engineering team produce and install a new bespoke conveyor for one of our customers, it seemed a great loss not to be able to share our bespoke designs with all of our other customers and clients.

Although we have always kept records and photographs of past designs and installations, we decided that it would be great if we could share these with anyone who was interested or who may be looking for a new conveyor or to upgrade their systems.

Our sales department took it in hand to take additional photgraphs and video of our newest designs and to upload these to the Mobility Engineering You Tube channel. This means that we now have a fantastic record and history of our projects and designs online.

Anyone can subscribe to the Mobility Engineering You Tube channel and this means never missing out when a new conveyor or bespoke designed system is added to the page!

Who Are Mobility Engineering

Posted by Sarah Bardsley on Thursday, 20 June 2019 at 10:06:59

Mobility Engineering have been producing conveyors and conveyor systems since 1974. We design, develop, manufacture, install and commission conveyors and material handling systems from our purpose built factory. Our talented team of engineers, designers and project managers deliver bespoke solutions to suit a variety of customers from a wide range of industries.

Our full drawing/design office produces full working drawings, prior to any product/conveyor being manufactured, which offers the versatility of being able to offer more bespoke designs and layouts. Coupled with this, is our in-house machining shop and control design engineers, who are able to offer the control cabinet and full logic/software control system.

Generally (or more simplistically) conveyors and conveyor systems can be broken down into two distinct divisions - powered and non-powered. Non-powered conveyors are gravity conveyors, therefore, relying on gravity to get from A to B (either horizontally, by human resources pushing, or via a decline, so the product moves under its own weight). Being non-powered means you simply cannot control the movement/flow. Powered conveyors, on the other hand, are much more reliable and versatile with regards control and process flow. Being powered, you are in control of how and how fast the product goes from A to B, plus it can have the added benefit of accumulation.

Examples of powered conveyors are:

1) Belt Conveyor (Fabric) 2) Belt Conveyor - (Plastic Modular) 3) Powered Roller Conveyor (Lineshaft) 4) Powered Roller Conveyor (Chain Driven) 5) Slat Conveyor (Acetal - Plastic) 6) Slat Conveyor (Stainless Steel) 7) Chain Conveyor 8) Magnetic Conveyor

Powered Roller Conveyor (Chain To Chain)

Posted by Sarah Bardsley on Thursday, 20 June 2019 at 10:04:54

One of our recent projects was to design and install a system for a client which would enable them to transport various sizes of sheet steel ready for the next operation in the production process.

The Chain Driven Roller Conveyor/Pallet Roller Conveyor is the most robust and heavy duty of the powered conveyor series, predominantly used for heavier products such as pallet/drum handling and storage, where the product is usually fed onto the conveyor by a machine or fork truck. Powered Roller Conveyor systems comprise various components that are designed for both heavy duty usage and flexibility. They consist of sprocketed thick walled rollers, chain to chain or tangential (one common chain) drive mechanism, a fully enclosed side frame and an external shaft mounted motor.

Table Wares Powered Roller Conveyor System

Who doesn't love a good cup of tea from a lovely tea service!

Mobility Engineering are very proud to be amongst the suppliers for the pottery industry, supplying them with batt return systems. These conveyors are used to store and return pottery and table wares to and from the kiln system. They allow the pottery factory to maximise their kiln times throughout a 24 hour shift, with minimal staffing levels during the night.

Potteryware (of which major types include earthenware, stoneware and porcelain) is made from ceramic materials which require firing. Modern potteryware manufacturers require systems which can produce and fire a large amount of mass produced pottery in the most efficient method with minimal costs for both manufacture and labour.

Mobility Engineering has designed and manufactured systems which would be able to load prepared potterywares such as plates, bowls and cups which are ready to be fired onto a conveyor system. The products are then be sent through the kiln and then returned through to the operator for removal from the system.

Stainless Steel Acetal Slat Chain Conveyor

Posted by Sarah Bardsley on Tuesday, 21 May 2019 at 13:10:31

Filed under: Chain Driven, Slat, Steel, Videos

One of our latest projects was to produce a stainless steel acetal slat chain conveyor which was suitable for both the food and pharmaceutical industries.

Steel Slat Conveyor Systems are predominantly used, and are ideal for, such industries as food and pharmaceuticals, where rapid speed and accuracy is of the utmost importance, plus they also have the ability to be washed down for hygiene purposes.

Being "easy to clean" means that there must be easy access to all surfaces, whether they are in direct contact with the food product or not. A well designed food conveyor will offer easy cleaning access to all areas, and it will also require minimum maintenance.

Conveyors that are used in the food industry have to be designed and manufactured to specific standards. This is why for food and pharmaceutical use the conveyor may be designed and manufactured in stainless steel as it will be suitable for wet conditions and for cleaning.

Gravity Roller Conveyors for Large or Small Products

Posted by Sarah Bardsley on Thursday, 09 May 2019 at 16:44:46

Filed under: Conveyors, Gravity, Videos, Applications

Our gravity roller conveyors are the simplest and most cost-effective of all the conveyor systems that we design and install. Gravity Roller Conveyors are usually used to move smaller trays, slave boards, cardboard boxes and plastic totes, but they can be used to move larger items which have a flat and stable bottom, up to and including skips and pallets.

Using the force of gravity to move products means gravity roller conveyors are extremely simple and cost-effective as no power is necessary for operation.

If you are looking for an incredibly durable and simple, cost-effective conveyor then have a look at our gravity roller conveyors on our website. Here is some video footage of gravity roller coneyors Mobility Engineering have installed for our customers.

Gravity Roller Conveyors

Posted by Sarah Bardsley on Monday, 29 April 2019 at 10:31:01

Mobility Engineering has been manufacturing gravity roller conveyors for over 40 years in Cheshire, and delivering and installing them throughout the UK and further afield.

A gravity conveyor moves a product or load along without utilising motor power sources, usually down an incline or through a person pushing the load along a flat conveyor. Gravity roller conveyors transport products or work in process from one work area to another.  Gravity conveyors are a low cost and an ergonomic way to move materials.

Gravity Roller Conveyor Systems are used in such instances as conveying trays, slave boards, cardboard boxes, plastic totes, etc for either, simply transporting from A to B, or for use in Kanban scenarios.

Because Gravity Roller Conveyors are extremely modular they can be utilised in many ways. They can form a crucial role when linked to the end of a powered system, for such purposes as packing and accumulation, or they can actually form full production lines.

Here is a great playlist showing some of the gravity roller conveyors we have designed and installed for clients.
