Maintaining Your Gravity Roller Conveyor
Steel Roller Conveyors
A gravity roller conveyor which is manufactured from mild or carbon steel should not come in contact with any form of liquid (especially during cleaning) that could lead to rusting. The steel gravity roller conveyors that are manufactured by Mobility Engineering are dispatched from our premises with a coating of oil which should initially protect them from the elements, ie any dampness in the atmosphere.
Alternatives to Steel Rollers
When you are deciding on the type of roller conveyor you require, you need to consider all of the elements that your conveyor will be subject to. If there is any possibility of contact with water or moisture of any kind in your premises then you may wish to look at alternatives, such as plastic or stainless steel rollers.
These should not be washed down at all unless a specific IP rating has been decided upon when the conveyor is ordered. IP (or "Ingress Protection") ratings are defined in international standard EN 60529 (British BS EN 60529:1992, European IEC 60509:1989). They are used to define levels of sealing effectiveness of electrical enclosures against intrusion from foreign bodies (tools, dirt etc) and moisture.
General Day to Day Maintenance of your Gravity Roller Conveyor
To obtain the best performance and life-span from your gravity roller conveyor you should practice the following maintenance on a regular basis:
- Visually check the gravity roller conveyor for any wear or damage. Replacement rollers and parts are always available - just contact us for a price. Replacing parts in good time will save money over the long term.
- Check for alignment, that the rollers are level and in line. Any parts which are out of place can cause damage and unnecessary wear and tear. For the same reasons check for any movement around the rollers in the frames.
- Ensure that any nuts and bolts are kept tight on frames and supports.
If you are unsure about any of the above, we are always here to give advice on how to obtain the best from your roller conveyor. Call us on 01925 755923 for a chat.
