A conveyor belt system generally consists of two or more pulleys (or drums) which control an endless loop of conveyor belt which rotates around the drums. One or both of the drums are powered to move the belt along. A drum which is powered is called the drive pulley whilst an unpowered pulley is an idler pulley.
Types of Conveyor Belts
There are two main types of conveyor belts, those which are used for general materials handling such as processing goods and packing in a factory or warehouse and those which are used for much larger volumes of goods and used in heavy industry and agriculture, where they may be moving grain, gravel, sand, coal etc.
Mobility Engineering Are Experts In All Types of Conveyor Belts
PVC/PU Conveyor Belts
A PVC/PU conveyor belt is still commonly used as it is more cost effective that modular belting. These types of conveyor belts can also be divided between conveyor belts for assembly lines and packing and those used for food production where a specialised food grade PU belt is recommended.
Modular Conveyor Belts
Modular conveyor belts are being used more and more frequently for conveyor belt systems because they is very durable and they are also more flexible than the standard PVC/PU conveyor belt. Modular belting is normally constructed from polypropylene, polyethylene or polyacetal.
